Thanksgiving Place Mat

Supplies

1) Plain weave neutral colored dish towel

2) Acrylic paint (yellow, green, red, orange, brown)

3) Textile medium

4) Clear acetate sheet

5) Artificial autumn leaf

6) Gold textile paint pen

Tools

1) Slick surface marking pen (black)

2) Scissors or craft knife

3) Sea sponge

4) Heat gun

Procedure

1) Wash the dish towel to remove sizing.

2) Trace the leaf on the acetate using the marking pen.

3) Cut out the leaf to make a stencil.

4) Mix each color of paint with some textile medium.

5) Place the stencil on the towel and dab on the paint using the sponge.

6) Lightly sponge paint around stenciled leaves.

7) After the paint is dry, draw in the leaf veins with the gold pen.

8) Heat set the paint with the heat gun and wait several days before washing the towel.

Tips

1) You can make the towel into an apron by sewing a casing at the top and stringing

ribbon through. Sew on ribbon ties.

2) Sponged-on paint can be used to cover up stenciling mistakes.
